Wines of Spain food matching dinner hosted by Charlotte Cotterill
Friday 3rd February
Spain has over 2.9 million acres of planted vines, making it the most widely planted wine producing nation but it is only the third largest producer of wine in the world, the largest being France followed by Italy. This is due, in part, to the very low yields and wide spacing of the old vines planted on the dry, infertile soil found in many Spanish wine regions. The country is ninth in worldwide consumptions with Spaniards drinking, on average, 38 liters a year. The country has an abundance of native grape varieties,
with over 400 varieties planted throughout Spain though 80 percent of
the country's wine production is from only 20 grapes, including Tempranillo, Albariño, Garnacha, Palomino, Airen, Macabeo, Parellada, Xarello, Cariñena and Monastrell.
Chef will offer a well balanced menu using the best available Scottish Winter season's produce to deliver a well matched meal. Wines will be selected and presented by Charlotte Cotterill. Charlotte is with Fields, Morris & Verdin which was formed in 2004 with a broad customer base ranging from Michelin starred
restaurants and boutique hotels through to independent wine merchants.
